Meac names Volleyballers of the Week

Norfolk State senior Shonte Seale was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Morgan State’s Jada Williams was named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State’s Andrea Tsvetanova was named Setter of the Week. North Carolina Central junior Loren Johnson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Seale (Sr., OH, Bridgetown, Barbados) averaged .362 kills, including 26-of-58 attempts, and 1.43 digs per set over seven matches last week. She recorded 14 kills in four matches, hitting .444, along with two assists, two aces, and three digs in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore. She also recorded 26 kills with one assist, one ace, and seven digs in a win over Delaware State. 

Williams (Fr., MB, Fredericksburg, Va.) averaged 2.11 kills and 1.00 blocks per set to aid Morgan State to a 1-1 finish last week. She led the team with nine blocks, including two solo, and a .444 hitting percentage with 19 kills. Williams hit a match-high .579 with a season-best 12 kills, and three blocks in a win against South Carolina State. 

Tsvetanova (Sr., S, Sofia, Bulgaria) recorded a double-double with a season-high 59 assists (11.80 avg) with 13 digs and three aces in a win against N.C. Central. She also averaged 9.00 assists (27 total) in a win over S.C. State. For the week, Tsvetanova racked up 110 assists, 10 aces, 23 digs, and two blocks in 11 sets. 

Johnson (Jr. L, Charlotte, N.C.) averaged 5.3 digs in 10 sets for the Eagles, including 30 digs in a five-set match against Coppin State, while also serving up a career-high six aces. She added 23 digs (4.60 avg.) with four aces against Morgan State.

Other Top Performers

Kayla Diaz (HOW) averaged 8.33 assists in six sets against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Ainara Fernandes (MSU) had a season and match-high eight service aces to go along with 12 kills, a .407 hitting percentage and five digs in a win at S.C. State.

Coco Figueroa (CSU) recorded a season-high 17 digs in a five-set win over North Carolina Central. 

Gabrielle Gilbert (NSU) registered 32 kills with nine digs, two blocks, one ace, and two assists in two matches last week.

Kamren Harper (NCCU) totaled 30 kills, 16 digs, and one block in matches against Morgan State and Coppin State.

Gabriela Hiciano (MSU) collected 18 digs, two assists and a service ace against N.C. Central. 

Amarah Johnson (NCCU) recorded nine blocks, three solo, with 13 kills in matches against Morgan State and Coppin State.

Ashley Roman (CSU) recorded 57 digs, including a season high 30 digs against N.C. Central. 

Sydney McCree (NSU) registered 34 assists, surpassed 900 career assists and recorded her 50thcareer service ace against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Fabiana Mucciola (NSU) collected eight assists and 26 digs en route to a 2-0 week with wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.

Rya McKinnon (HOW) recorded 21 kills with three aces, 10 digs, and one block against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Takenya Stafford (CSU) recorded a double-double of 27 kills and 23 digs with two blocks against North Carolina Central.

Cimone Woodard (HOW) recorded 13 kills, five digs, and four blocks against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.
